Emilie – Beginners Sewing Course

I can only recommend courses at In with the Old!! This quirky little shop is full of treasures, everywhere you look there are beautiful and unusual things to see – being in such a special environment makes the course even more enjoyable! Alice, the owner of the shop, is absolutely lovely, very patient, understanding and always very enthusiastic! About the course itself – I had never sewn before, but Layla made everything look simple and doable. She is very patient and understands how you wouldn’t get the sewing logics straight away, so you feel confident in learning rather than ashamed of not knowing! Over the course of only 4 lessons I learnt a lot. I now have a shopping tote, a make-up bag and a pair of pyjama bottoms made by myself and I’m very proud of that! Most other courses will not introduce you to patterns and making an actual garment/-. Also, we had lots of choice in the fabrics (included in the price of the course) that were all very beautiful! So, just go, have some fun, spend some great time with lovely and funny people, treat yourself and learn something new – I already booked the dressmaking course that’s in April, will practice in the meantime and can’t wait to get started on it!!

It was really nice, learned some tricks. The teacher knew all about the subject!

A great workshop with a very knowledgeable teacher. Loads of fun in a very relaxed atmosphere… would highly recommend!

Yu – Sewing Class

Made a nice liberty print pouch for the first time as I couldn't find any nice one and my pouch got scruffy. Was really fun to join the sewing workshop. The teacher was good and friendly. She gave us exactly the right and simple instructions. Actually I haven’t used a sewing machine for more than 10 years, since when I graduated high school. Although I’m not dexterous, I made it, thanks to her. Also, thank you for organizing such a nice workshops at your pretty shop, Alice. Sewing is really fun! I really love this new pouch :)

Kirsten – Sewing Workshop

I love this quirky little shop! Attended a sewing school evening class there which was great too. I brought my own sewing machine – because I wanted to practice with it – but the machines she had were also fine. All the tools and materials were great, the fabrics were ever so lovely and we made these cute little fold over purses.
Alice is a very good instructor, explaining everything clearly, patiently going over it twice more if you still don’t get it, she is able to adjust the lesson to everyones individual level and needs.
All in all it was a really fun evening, I learned how to make the purse, brought my own creation home with me (keep my passport in it) and I feel a lot more confident working with my sewing machine. I recommend the sewing school at In with the Old to everyone looking to learn a thing or to as part of a fun crafts night. I am certainly coming back for another session soon.

All of our prices include materials, hair/make up products (if applicable) and of course our specialist team of staff! The price depends predominantly on the number of hens in your party. If you would prefer not to come to our Exmouth Market workshop or you have your own venue arranged then we are happy to travel to anywhere within London.
You can choose as many activities as you like and if you have your own ideas for a craft and/or vintage based Hen Party we would be happy to consider them!

Laura, Nic and Chloe – Hen Party

Hi Alice, We just wanted to say thank you so much again to you and the other girls for yesterday’s hen party. It was perfect for Amy and she absolutely loved it (as did all the other attendees!). You did such a wonderful job running the two activities, the room looked gorgeous with the bunting etc, and the afternoon tea was delicious, really yummy. I had a fabulous evening learning a new skill. I would definitely recommend this workshop to friends. Our host taught us well and answered any of our questions – she clearly knows her stuff! I’m amazed at the finished product – I didn’t think I was capable of making something so professional looking.

The Makeup artist was very talented and friendly, explained everything step by step and answered all questions, I had a great time.

Really well organised so not overwhelming at all for beginners. Came away with my own masterpiece!

Very informative, 8 people in the class so was enough time for the tutor to answer everyone’s questions. Would definitely recommend this for anyway who wants to get off automatic and learn how to control their camera.
